The Challenge of Organizing a Festival
Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival is one of the largest jazz festivals in the world, as mentioned by Tim Hauser (The Manhattan Transfer) and Brian Simpson last night (5 March 2008). It is no wonder, as more than 1,000 artists, Indonesian and international, will be performing at Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival.
One of the most substantial challenges subjected upon the Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival production team is fulfilling all of the demands and whims of the artists, which is not merely limited to performance-related matter, but also other requests; starting from means of transportations, accommodations, consumption, committee services, speedy and easy access to information, mass media exposure (including press conference), to matters of payment.
These challenges are not only faced by the committee of the Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival, it is a general challenge for any organizer.
In relevance to efforts to achieve an agreement between one party and another, frequently, a long coordination process between the organizing committee of Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival and potentially performing artists takes place, as many parties, including agency and manager, partakes the decision-making process. As a result, an agreement may deviate from time to time.
Matt Bianco Cancels Performance
Since the beginning of the promotion process, group Matt Bianco has been listed amongst the many performers attending the Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival. As do other musicians who have performed or will be performing at festival, Matt Bianco made a number of requests. Earlier this week, the Committee was still under the impression that the group will be performing at Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival 2008. However, without official notification to the festival's committee, the group posted the cancellation of its show in its official website. "Organizational difficulties", was cited as the reason; no further explanation was given.
Suddenly, without any clear notification to the festival's committee, the Matt Bianco official website, which initially publicized Matt Bianco's attendance for the star-filled festival, stated a form of cancellation Such things do happen. In the years that Java Jazz Festival has been around, the committee has never failed to fulfill the hopes and demands of musicians and artist managements. It is proven from the numerous stars who have been successfully invited for the previous three festivals. Per 5 March 2008, renowned group Manhattan Transfer, Ron King Big Band, Brian Simpson, Everette Harp, Greg Adams, Mike Nock, Franco D'Andrea, James Ingram, Jeff Lorber and Kurt Elling have arrived in Jakarta and can not wait to dazzle the audience of Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival, as they know that it is one of the most prestigious jazz festivals in the world. Joe Sample & the Crusaders, Chico & the Gypsies, Sara Gazarek, Pat Martino, Renee Olstead, George Clinton, Earth Wind and Fire Experience are scheduled to immediately arrive in Jakarta.
That is the art of organizing a world-class jazz festival; there are moments an agreement can be immediately established; whilst on another occasion, creativity to overcome obstacles is compulsory. The committee of Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival 2008 has decided to replace Matt Bianco with the very much loved and popular British group, Incognito. Furthermore, Incognito has also prepared a special treat for the audience of Dji Sam Soe Super Premium Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival 2008. Just like jazz, organizing a jazz festival is also full of improvisations.
